Many of us brag about our 20/20 vision until we realize that there is a possibility that such can be changed merely due to an unhealthy practice. No one is ever eager to join the ‘ four-eyed club ‘ but there are lots of things we do that cause our vision to change and straining our eyes is perhaps the most common of all. - Watching the television too close
Whenever we sit too close to the television to watch it, we strain our eye muscles to accommodate viewing images at a short distance .This affects our eyes ability to adjust to the normal way it views and interprets .It is advised to watch the television at a safe distance, which is approximately 5 times that of the width of your television screen.
- Prolong use of computer
The glare from the computer can cause strain to our eye muscles after prolong use especially if the computer doesn’t have a screen protector. However, with or without a screen protector the user still stands the risk of straining the eye. It is suggested that users frequently take 15 minutes break then take another few minutes to look away from the computer at a farther distance. This break is expected to allow the eye muscles to relax at intervals.
- Wearing glasses
For those who already wear glasses, it is widely advised to do so when watching the television. Not doing so can still result in strain to the eye and contribute to worsening your already altered vision.1
