Connections Between Food & Acne

Acne_Feature

Unbeknownst to many people, the foods we eat can take a toll on our bodies and unless there are allergies that we suffer from, we would never realize. Acne does not only affect the growing teenager, it affects adults as well. There are many properties in foods that have both negative and positive effects on the body. In general one may feel the effect of some foods on the body but some may actually see the effects on their skin in the form of acne. Acne is usually visible on the face more so than any other parts of the body. Some of the most notorious foods known to cause acne are foods that are very high in sugar, fast foods high in grease, junk foods (chips, cheese puffs etc.), foods which have an abundance in cow’s milk and foods that have a high glycemic index. If you are seeking clearer skin then some foods you should eat frequently are fish, green tea, nuts, fruits and vegetables. In addition to clearer skin, these foods contribute to a healthy diet and an overall healthier lifestyle. Acne is one of those battles that people fight with medicines and acne creams, when the answer could be as simple as altering their diets. In addition to eating the appropriate foods, water is also essential because most beverages are high in sugars and can also cause breakouts.  A few familiar foods that are known to trigger acne breakouts are…

French Fries (Packed with grease and fat)

Pizza (Dairy and grease)

White Rice (High on the glycemic index)

Bread (Wheat causes Inflammation)

Coffee (Cortisol)

Sugar

Soy (Phytoestrogens)

Dairy Products (Hormones)

These are just a few foods known to trigger acne breakouts and especially if you are an acne sufferer, it is recommended to cut down on these foods or try to eliminate them if possible
