Obesity is a growing problem in the youth across the world. Firstly, thanks to Michelle Obama and her “Let’s Move” campaign to reduce childhood obesity in the USA. Obesity isn’t only about being excessively overweight but it also brings concern to children’s well-being. The campaign’s initiative is to reduce the number of obese adults by the year 2030. As a preventative measure, we must educate parents and guardians about the most fattening foods and substitutes that can be used in place of them.
The first food that has been proven to be extremely fattening is steak. Just like any other beef product this food takes extremely long to digest but not only that, beef can be deemed or portrayed as the leanest of cuts and having minimum fat but even the leanest still contain some sort of fat. Due to the fact that beef is such a hard food for the body to digest large amounts of steak can eventually lead to colorectal cancer. Even though the body does need some of the fat when overdone it is possible to gain some extra weight. This red meat is high in saturated fats and cholesterol which can be detrimental to a person’s health as they get older.
This next food is a universally adored food item, the notorious ice cream. This sweetened frozen good is typically eaten as a snack or dessert. However the sweeter the flavour the more addicted an individual can become. I’m guilty of this addiction. Ice cream is usually made with dairy products such as milk and cream and further combined with other ingredients to make a particular flavour. But what you should become familiar with is that all ice creams are fattening but some more than others. High end brands of ice cream are so much more fattening than the low end ice cream brands. Brands similar to Haagen-Dazs and Ben & Jerry’s are the most fattening ice-creams out there. You never noticed how fast those two brands melt and how creamy they are when melting? That’s because they contain so little air and such a high level of butterfat. An alternative is frozen yoghurt, same taste less fat.
Finally the fattiest of them all, America’s beloved Cheese Burger. A cheese burger is packed with so many calories and the fat is dispersed all through the blood vessels and then begins to affect your irreplaceable heart. Cheese burgers are by far the most unhealthy food items not only because of the nutritional make up but because of the convenience and inexpensive nature of them. Thanks to Burger King and McDonalds, love ya still!
