You Won’t Believe People Actually Eat This

There are certainly some foods that don’t always tickle your fancy but it’s not strange that people would eat them, but how about the kinds of foods you’d never believe people would actually put into their mouths. Here are 4 foods that you won’t believe people eat.

CasuMarzu is a pecorino (made from sheep’s milk) cheese created in the country of Sardinia. This in itself is not surprising at all; they are various types of cheeses that don’t always come from the milk of a cow. So why would anyone find it unbelievable that people would eat this cheese? Well just bear in mind that another name for CasuMarzu, is “Italian Maggot Cheese” and this name is quite literal. Yup, that’s right! In this autonomous region of Italy the Sardinians have been known to enjoy a pecorino cheese that is purposely created to be infested with maggots. The cheese is formed and after curing for about 3 weeks the top of the cheese is cut off and put into dark open rooms for about 3 months so that flies can lay eggs in the cheese and the eggs can hatch into maggots. The flavour of the cheese comes from the taste of the maggots after they have eaten and digested the cheese.

In many countries common street foods consists of hotdogs, fries, burgers, many varieties of sandwiches and other popular fast foods. It’s not so common for eggs to be considered as street food unless it’s cooked up in some special way and added to a meal, but that’s exactly what you’d find on the streets of the south-eastern Asian country of Cambodia. Not so unbelievable right? Well guess what? The contents of the egg aren’t whites and a yolk; it’s actually an unborn baby duck that you’ll find. These fetuses or said to taste better than they look and are good for male potency. Go figure!

Fried Tarantulas

I’m sure we’ve all found a spider taking up residence in our homes somewhere in a dark corner of the garage, attic or basement at some point in time. Or outside where they belong far away from us. Wherever and however you’ve seen them I’m sure your first instinct was either to kill it and run like hell, scream, kill it and run like hell, or just run like hell. Either way you have certainly never thought to yourself “hmmm, I wonder what that tastes like.” Well in Cambodia nationals could answer your question with full knowledge and experience and they’d tell you that they taste great. Over in western countries we deep fry chicken and chips, but in this south-eastern country, it is Tarantulas called “a-ping” you’ll find sizzling in the hot oil. Not the best place for someone with arachnophobia to grow up I guess.

Rocky Mountain Oysters

Although not always the most appealing, oysters aren’t all that bad. However, Rocky Mountain Oysters are not Oysters at all but in fact the testicles of a bull, sheep or pig that is seasoned, coated in flour, and deep fried. This dish is popular and loved in some places of North America as more of an appetizer and dipped in sauce.
